Twin sisters Spijkers&Spijkers and Euro Sox Plus designed Alzheimer Socks 2.0 for raising money for Alzheimer research

Amsterdam/Holten, 21 September 2017 – Today, on World Alzheimer Day, the second edition of the Alzheimer socks; this initiative helps people gain awareness and make the topic open to everyone. The new collection has been designed by the twin sisters Truus & Riet Spijkers, known as Spijkers&Spijkers with the help of Euro Sox Plus team.

This year the Alzheimer socks include also children sizes to grow awareness among the younger ages. The slogan of the 2017 campaign is ‘held op sokken’, which means ‘hero with socks’. Each person who buys these socks gives a contribution to research and becomes a hero.
Young and old can become a “hero on socks”. The profit from the sale of the socks will be donated to Alzheimer Nederland and will be used for research on Alzheimer’s disease at the VUmc Alzheimer Centre in Amsterdam.

The Alzheimer Socks are being sold online through the web shop https://www.alzheimersocks.nl/ and through displays in Jumbo (a famous supermarket chain in the Netherlands) and Jeans Centre.
The price of the Alzheimer Socks is € 6,99 per pair. In total almost 110.000 pairs will hopefully be sold in the next weeks. Aim of Alzheimer Socks is to contribute approx. € 500.000 to the Alzheimer Foundation for this edition.

The first edition of the Alzheimer Socks, designed by Mart Visser and Frans Molenaar, was very successful and became famous through different communication channels. The most important ones were Instagram and Twitter, where people who bought the Alzheimer socks posted pictures of themselves wearing the two different socks.
